How it went

I canNOT believe it's almost been 4 weeks. He's getting too big already. Here is what happened just before Milo made his entrance.

Wednesday, April 21: I went to the Doctor and he checked to see how I was progressing. I was hopeful considering I had Braxton-Hicks Contractions ALL the time. He checked me. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. 0% effaced. Not dilated in the slightest. He told us that usually you start to dilate about 2 weeks before you deliver. I went home and cried. I was going to be pregnant forever.

Wednesday, April 28: Went to the doctor again. My hopes were low that I would get any good news. I wasn't going to be let down again. Good thing too, still NO progress. at all. none. awesome. I guess I could be ok with being pregnant forever. Doctor told me I'd more than likely be late by at least a week. That I'd need to be induced and to plan on being induced on the 10th, a week after my due date.

Saturday, May 1: I went to a bridal shower for my sister in law. Every one asked when I was going to have a baby. I told them all with confidence that I was going to need to be induced on the 10th. Everyone agreed because it was my first. That night I started to feel some cramps that started in my back and came around my stomach. I was pretty sure they were contractions, but not completely sure. I started looking for a contraction tracker app on my itouch. at 9:30p.m., they started to become more regular and stronger, so I started to time them. I took a hot bath at midnight and managed to get about a (separated) hour of sleep. They kept getting more painful, so I went downstairs so that Adam could keep sleeping. I watched (i think) 3 episodes of law and order. I'm pretty sure I watched some other shows, maybe the news? but the contractions were too intense and close together to remember.

Sunday, May 2: 7a.m. Adam came down stairs to see how I was doing and how close my contractions were. They were averaging over a minute long and 3-5 minutes apart. So we put together the few things left that needed to be packed and headed to the hospital. I felt pretty confidant that I wasn't going to be sent home because they were so regular and strong. When we got to the hospital, they checked me and I was only dilated to a 1. I was fully effaced. They said they'd keep me for an hour and see how I progressed. So I chomped on ice and laid in bed and waited. After an hour, they checked me again. I was at a 1.5. Awesome. I needed to be at LEAST at a 2. so they said I could stay another hour and see how I progressed. So I chomped more ice and walked around the hospital. After an hour and a half, I was almost at a 2. So they gave me some morphine for the pain and told me to go home. After about 2 hours the morphine wore off, and 3 hours after that we headed back to the hospital. My contractions were about 2 minutes long and every minutes at most. At the hospital they checked me again, I was only at a 3. After another hour, I was STILL at a 3. It was a good thing we had a different nurse. The one from earlier would have sent me home, but this one could tell that I needed to stay. contractions were a minute apart and lasting at least 1 minute, if not longer. Once I was admitted, they injected pure heaven into my back (my very lovely epidural), broke my water and gave me pitocin. By now, it was about 7p.m. Now we just waited for it to be baby time. At 11p.m. I was fully dilated and ready to push. The nurse told me I would be pushing for 1-3 hours before baby would make his appearance. I pushed a few times and then we decide to "rest and descend" for an hour. At midnight, I started pushing again. After about 10 minutes, baby was ready to come out, so she told me to stop pushing and wait for the doctor to get there. Once he was there, I pushed for another 10 minutes. When he started crowning, the doctor took a travel size bottle of baby shampoo and shampood his head with half the bottle. After that, Milo came into the world, and changed ours forever.

An hour and half before he was born.
